Humaid bin Rashid International Award for Sustainability announces the names of the scientific committee in its second edition


Ajman, United Arab Emirates — Hamid bin Rashid International Award for Sustainability has recently revealed the members of the scientific committee for the second edition of the award, which includes a number of experts, academics, and specialists in the field of the environment from various countries, including the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, Portugal and France, and the United Arab Emirates. The committee aims to evaluate the participating projects from a scientific and practical point of view, and then vote to select the awarded candidates.

Through this award, Ajman Municipality & Planning Department aims to stay in line with the strategy and vision of the wise leadership in UAE to achieve a better and more prosperous future for the country, and also to match the global interest in more sustainable solutions to meet the recent environmental challenges. Therefore, this award supports distinguished ideas and projects in the environment and sustainability by rewarding and honouring distinguished ideas and projects.

The award aims to honour and encourage everything that supports sustainability, whether it is research or projects concerned with the environment, or personalities that have contributed to this field. The award is also granted to institutions that apply sustainability principles and make an example to be followed by other institutions.

Applications were received starting last October 15 and will continue until September 15 of this year. The projects will be presented to the Scientific Committee for evaluation and the winner will be announced in March 2024 as part of the activities of Ajman’s International Environment Conference.

Khalid Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman from the United Arab Emirates, and Prof. Dr. Mufid Al Samarrai, Senior engineering and education consultant and coordinator of Jahzin Program -sponsored by Sharjah Holding-, from Iraq, and Prof. Dr. Riyad Al-Dabbagh, President of Manchester International Academy, from Iraq, Prof. Dr. Paul Van Geel, Director and Professor at the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Environmental Engineering, and Chair of the Independent Geosciences Advisory Group of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), from Canada, and Dr. Alvaro Azevedo, Senior Investigator at LNEC and Head of the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering Unit, from Canada Portugal, and Engineer Jorvan Dersel, General Manager of Drop Water Solutions, from France, and Dr. Mohamed Abouleish, Associate Professor at the American University of Sharjah, USA, and Prof Dr Eng. Abdul Salam K.
