What started as a small gathering of passionate collectors has grown into one of the most unique cultural exhibitions in the region. Latagan – Gitnang Silangan, a community-driven vintage cap exhibition, returns this 18th of April, Saturday, as it builds momentum toward its much-anticipated third installment.
At its core, the event is more than just a display of vintage caps – it is a celebration of culture, storytelling, and community.
The concept of “Latagan,” which translates to the simple act of “laying out” collections for display, began within a tight-knit group of Filipino collectors in the UAE. Initially connected through online platforms, these enthusiasts shared a common passion for collecting, trading, and appreciating vintage caps – but lacked a physical space to come together.
That changed with the first Latagan.
What began as an intimate and humble meet-up quickly evolved into a record-breaking exhibition featuring over 3,100 caps. More than the numbers, it was the sense of connection and shared passion that defined the event, proving that the culture surrounding vintage caps had the potential to grow into something much bigger.
The movement soon gained recognition beyond the community, earning features from major media outlets across the UAE – a testament to the growing relevance of vintage cap culture in the region.
With Latagan Dos, the community pushed even further, showcasing more than 4,000 vintage caps and drawing collectors from across different Emirates and backgrounds. It became not only one of the largest gatherings of vintage cap collectors, but also a symbol of unity through shared passion.
Now, as the community prepares for Latagan Tres, the vision is clearer than ever: to elevate the experience while strengthening the foundation that started it all.
This upcoming edition will focus on:
- Showcasing rare and diverse vintage cap collections
- Recognizing collectors through awards and milestones
- Highlighting the personal stories behind each collection
- Creating an inclusive space for both seasoned collectors and newcomers
What makes Latagan truly unique is its purpose. It is not driven by buying or selling, but by appreciation. Every cap carries a story – of nostalgia, identity, and personal journeys – all brought together in one space.
In many ways, Latagan reflects the spirit of the UAE itself: diverse, passionate, and united across cultures.
From a simple idea to a growing movement, Latagan continues to be built by the community, for the community.
